Translating Dietary Trials into the Community

Translating Dietary Trials into the Community was a partnership between Gramercy Research Group and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The project focused on translating the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan, which has been shown to be effective for lowering blood pressure, for use in under-resourced communities. The DASH eating plan is rich in fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy products, and lean meats.

The study included an assessment of barriers to adoption of DASH in under-resourced communities. Based on the assessment, investigators modified the evidence-based DASH curriculum and developed a 12-week pilot intervention. The pilot intervention was evaluated among 14 intervention and 11 control group participants.

Next steps include identifying funding to expand and evaluate the project in a larger sample.
